In jazz, the double bass is played mainly as a plucked instrument, rather than being bowed. Brass (violet) may be one or several rows and percussion usually comes in the last row. FLUTE (4:59), a main instrument, usually functioning as the soprano of the woodwind family, has a breathy, silvery tone. This is my first time buying a non-Loree, or any oboe without a trial or approval period, but friends are telling me I have nothing to fear -- we'll see!

Actually, we shut out most sounds, paying attention only to those of interest. Warren Sutherland used Chauvet BW oboes throughout most of his career as princpal oboe of the Indianopolis Symphony and Tucson Symphony. Reed instruments are different: the end in the player's mouth is not open to the outside air, so the air is not maximally free to move in and out. Woodwind refers to a group of instruments in which sound is produced by the vibration of reeds in the mouthpiece (such as with the clarinet, oboe or saxophone) or by the passing of air across the mouthpiece (such as with the flute.) Woodwind instruments have a long, thin column of air.
